The artist has donated the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the UK's grassroots music venues.

Fender was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support 38 small stages across the UK.

These funds helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and audiences.

"The idea that funds from concerts in big venues supports the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his award prize money to charitable organizations.

In they earned the trophy in 1996 for their record Different Class, frontman the singer stated that the group would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer she shared her prize between a few charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," the artist explained to a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the local youth club that developed their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected two local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in that area and the second in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
