Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
